Privacy Policy

1. Who this applies to
This policy covers the Patternwise iOS app. Patternwise is provided by an independent developer (contact below). The app has no Patternwise backend server and no account system. Your wellness entries stay with you; the limited third-party services used for weather and purchases are described below.
2. What is stored on your device
Everything you put into Patternwise is stored locally in an encrypted database on your iPhone:
- What you log — symptoms and their severity, food and drinks, lifestyle factors (sleep, stress, exercise, and any custom ones), notes, and the profiles of the people you track.
- Auto-captured context — weather/pressure and, if you allow it, last night's sleep.
- Settings — theme, reminders, and similar preferences.
We have no access to any of this. It never touches our servers, because we don't operate any.
3. What we do NOT collect from your journal
Patternwise contains no advertising or behavioral-tracking SDKs. We do not collect your name, email, contacts, health logs, usage analytics, or crash logs. We cannot see your wellness entries. RevenueCat processes anonymous purchase history only to validate purchases, provide purchase analytics, and unlock Premium as described in §12.
4. Weather & approximate location
If you enable weather features, the app asks a third-party weather service (Open-Meteo) for local weather and barometric pressure. To do that it sends an approximate, coarse location — a low-precision area, not your exact position or address. This is used only to fetch the weather for that request; we do not store it and it is not linked to your identity or used to track you. You can leave weather off, and no location is ever sent.
5. Apple Health (HealthKit)
If you grant permission, Patternwise reads selected data — such as last night's sleep — from Apple Health to save you typing. This access is read-only: we never write to Apple Health, and the data stays on your device. It is never transmitted anywhere.
6. On-device AI
Optional AI features (for example, a plain-language recap of what you've logged, or a neutral summary for a doctor's export) run entirely on your device using Apple's on-device models. Your entries are not sent to any server — ours or anyone else's — to power these features. The AI only describes what you logged; it does not diagnose or predict.
7. Notifications
Optional reminders are scheduled locally on your device. No reminder content is sent to a server.

Every one of these is optional. Decline any of them and the rest of the app still works.
9. How your data is protected
Your on-device database is encrypted at rest. The encryption key is held in the device's secure keychain, so your entries are protected by your iPhone's own security. Deleting the app removes its data from your device.
10. Data retention & your control
Your health data stays on your device until you remove it. You are in control: you can edit or delete any entry inside the app, archive or delete conditions and factors, and delete the app to erase everything. Because we never receive your wellness entries, there is no copy of them for us to delete. Apple and RevenueCat retain purchase records under their own policies.
11. Sharing & selling
We do not sell your personal data, and we never share your health data because we do not receive it. The only service disclosures are the optional weather request in §4 and anonymous purchase processing in §12. If you choose to export a CSV or PDF and send it to someone (for example, your doctor), that sharing is entirely under your control and happens through the apps you pick.
12. Premium purchases
Patternwise offers an optional one-time Premium purchase; it is not a subscription. Apple processes the payment. RevenueCat validates the purchase and restore status and unlocks Premium. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID, basic technical information such as device type and operating system, and transaction information such as the product, Apple receipt, transaction status, purchase date, and last-seen time. This is used for app functionality and purchase analytics. It is not linked to your identity and is not used to track you across apps or for advertising.
No health data is included. RevenueCat does not receive your symptoms, food, factors, notes, profiles, Apple Health data, or weather coordinates. It also does not receive your payment-card information. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
The Support ID shown in Settings is the anonymous RevenueCat identifier for this installation. If you contact us about a purchase, you may choose to share it so we can locate the anonymous purchase record. It contains no health data.
13. Children
Patternwise is not directed to children under 13. It is a personal wellness journal intended for adults, who may also keep notes on behalf of someone they care for.
14. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data held about you (for example, under the GDPR or CCPA). You control your on-device wellness entries directly in the app. For questions or requests concerning an anonymous RevenueCat purchase record, contact us and include the Support ID from Settings if you are comfortable doing so. Apple controls records associated with your App Store account.
15. Not medical advice
Patternwise is a wellness journal, not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, or predict any condition.
16. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
